Myrna Mercado, DVM
Dr. Mercado is a native of Puerto Rico. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Florida, graduating with a Bachelor's in Biology, and earned her DVM degree from Tuskegee University in 2002. Her experience ranges from working in a small animal shelter in Port Washington, NY, to serving as a Clinical Instructor at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She enjoys every aspect of veterinary medicine, but preventative care is her favorite. Her love of science started young — her father is a pediatrician, and she enjoyed helping others alongside him, which led her to volunteer at animal shelters and clinics and ultimately pursue veterinary medicine. She lives in Southwest Florida with her family: a fish named Don Quijote, a miniature dachshund named Aussie, her husband (also a veterinary surgeon), and two kids. She enjoys the outdoors, baking, and arts and crafts.
Leonardo Báez, DVM, MS, DACVS
Dr. Báez received his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Iowa State University and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine. After completing a Small Animal rotating internship at Mississippi State University and surgical internships at Long Island Veterinary Specialists and VCA of Northern Colorado, he returned to Mississippi State University to complete a three-year Residency in Small Animal Surgery. Since finishing his residency in 2010, he has worked as a veterinary surgeon in veterinary referral hospitals, performing a wide range of orthopedic and soft-tissue procedures. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons with specialized training in orthopedic and soft-tissue surgery.
